An open letter to Fate Citizens from Karl Butler

Howdy Neighbors,

OK, so here we go again!!! For those of you who how do not live in the Woodcreek Subdivision and did not attended the HOA Annual Meeting you didn't hear our Mayor explain the thoughts for the City and the potential growths if we could get the I-30 corridor developed and bring in some restaurants. This will never happen and they will skip over us and go straight to Royce City if we cannot get the TABC’s option #9 to pass. So my petition as it is stated from the TABC Option #9 “The legal sale of mixed beverages in a restaurant by food and beverage certificate holders only” Beer, malt liquor, wine and distilled spirits only in a restaurant. http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/local_option_elections/election_issues.asp would require anyone who wants to sell in a Restaurant to comply with their rules. Follow this link http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/laws/code/80th/Title3.pdf to page 40 of 90 Sec. 28.18 FOOD AND BEVERAGE CERTIFICATE (b) reads......

(b) An applicant or holder of a food and beverage certificate shall have food service facilities for the preparation and service of multiple entrees. The commission shall adopt rules as necessary to assure that the holder of a food and beverage certificate maintains food service on the premises for which a food and beverage certificate has been issued.

Please note that the issue everyone was crying WOLF about last time on the Ordinance 0-1132 (75/25) has been abolished by City Council and is no longer an issue. We will follow the same guidelines as Rockwall and it will be the TABC who polices NOT the City on this issue. We as a City will only benefit from the TAXABLE revenue from this type of business.

Next….Fate is WET just like ALL of Rockwall County and yes indeed you can go to Downtown Fate and buy BEER & Wine! But you cannot buy BEER & Wine at the Homeboys Exxon Convenience Store on 66 & 3549. And everyone is questioning WHY? This again (or should I say still) is because they were annexed into the City after the election held to allow such sales. So if we do not pass option 3, TABC #3 “The legal sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only.” Beer, malt liquor and wine in a grocery or convenience store, we are only hurting our City with lost TAX revenue and a store owner by having customers shop elsewhere.

So please if you do not drink think of this as a TAX REVENUE GENERATING petition and keep in mind the longer we wait the more we LOOSE! Please take a moment and go to the Homeboys Exxon at SH 66 & FM 3549 (formerly FM 549) and sign the petitions there BUT you must be a registered voter in the City of Fate for this to help. If you are not then please come to one of the Voter Registration events there will be in Woodcreek, or reply to my email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I will get you a form. Thank you for your time in reading this and again please go sign the petition and more importantly in November go to the poles and VOTE for these so we can continue to grow as a City.

E-mail Print PDF

On Wednesday June 1, 2011 a sign was put on on I30 marking the official spot where the new Wal-Mart will be located however according to some reports the new overpass to be built will not be done til 2013.

As a resident of Fate, I welcome the addition of a Wal-Mart in the city next door and hopefully will bring more stores to the area including Fate TX.
